La Piffaudiere Cot 2023 - Touraine, France

  • Malbec / Cot
  • Red
  • Touraine, Loire Valley, France
  • 12.0 ABV

We absolutely love this new import! A vibrant red hailing from Touraine in the heart of the Loire Valley. The region's cool, continental climate and unique flint and clay soils provide the ideal conditions for retaining the essential freshness and minerality that defines the Loire style. This Côt (Malbec) bottling is an exclusive find that we selected for its expressive, low-intervention quality, showcasing the unique character of the area's reds.

The wine is made by Olivier Bellanger at Domaine de la Piffaudière, an organic producer dedicated to precision and minimal intervention. Olivier grows the grapes on flinty clay soils and employs a semi-carbonic maceration technique to enhance the fruit's juiciness and suppleness. This method, followed by maturation in wooden vats, results in a wine that is pure, energetic, and highly expressive of the grape variety. The resulting wine pours a bright, inky purple-red, with a nose bursting with fresh black cherry, blackcurrant, and a touch of peppery spice and violet. The palate is fluid, juicy, and medium-bodied, driven by a lively acidity and fine, gentle tannins.

Serve this wine lightly chilled (around 14°C) to fully appreciate its versatility. It makes an excellent partner for a wide variety of dishes, including charcuterie, pork rillettes, grilled halloumi, duck breast, or a classic French mushroom pâté.
