Burrowing Owl Meritage - Canada

Burrowing Owl is one of Canada's best-known estates, and for good reason! Jim Wyse purchased the vineyard in 1993, carefully selected for its potential to produce high-quality grapes, and immediately began to replant the vineyards. Ever since their first vintage, the estate's wines have been sought after.

Meritage is Burrowing Owl's flagship Bordeaux-style blend. The 2019 vintage combines 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Cabernet Franc, 23% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec, sourced from estate vineyards in Oliver and Osoyoos. Each variety was vinified separately and aged for 15 months in oak barrels, predominantly French, before the finest barrels were selected for blending. The finished blend was then returned to barrel for a further three months to allow the components to integrate.

A rich and beautifully structured wine showing aromas of black cherry, blackberry, ripe plum and blackcurrant, complemented by cedar, vanilla and savoury herbal notes. The full-bodied palate offers concentrated dark fruit, fine tannins and refreshing acidity, with hints of spice and oak leading into a long, elegant finish. Pair this with roast lamb, venison, beef Wellington or a rich mushroom and lentil casserole.
