HISTORY & TRADITION
Our family began farming in the Okanagan Valley in 1908, and helped the valley transition from growing tree fruits to grapes and wine. In 1956 we purchased the estate at Quails’ Gate, and this year we are celebrating 25 years of winemaking. We believe we have reached this significant milestone because our family has always been passionate about the potential of the land and uncompromising about the quality of our wines.
As we celebrate our quarter-century anniversary, our family is extremely grateful to our many supporters, including members of the media as well as liquor boards, fine restaurants, and retail stores. The Quails’ Gate winery team works tirelessly to make great wines and to provide an exceptional Canadian winery experience.
Quail's Gate Chardonnay
Our Chardonnay beautifully balances the acidity of stainless steel fermentation with the elegance of French oak. Bright and complex with rich biscuity, buttery notes our Chardonnay will reward careful cellaring.
The 2014 Chardonnay leaps out of the glass with expressive aromas of white flowers, baked pear and orange blossom. While not as tropical as the 2013 vintage, this wine brings with it a bright mid palate, vibrant acidity and a refreshing, lingering finish. A delightful layer of stonefruit and minerality make this Chardonnay an ideal match for a range of different dishes. Caesar salad, pan seared scallops or rotisserie chicken just to name a few.
Quail's Gate Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is our flagship product. The volcanic slopes at this Quails’ Gate vineyard site are ideally suited to this varietal. Made to be elegant with grace and finesse, this wine is made for wine lovers who desire a sophisticated style of Pinot Noir. As one of Canada’s leading producers of Pinot Noir, we ensure that our wines exhibit rich, complex fruit flavours, reminiscent of classic Burgundy wines, while showcasing the added elegance of New World wine making techniques.
The 2014 Pinot Noir is an expressive combination of bright red berry fruit, sweet spices and subtle hints of forest floor and earth. This is a medium bodied, fruit forward wine, with fine polished tannins and a long lingering finish. We suggest pairing with roasted chicken, baked salmon or wild mushroom risotto.
Quail's Gate Riesling Icewine
At Quails’ Gate we believe the key to excellence in Icewine is ensuring we pick at optimal temperatures. Grapes naturally frozen on the vine produce a concentration of flavours not common in all ice wines.
Our 2014 Icewine has intense aromas of ripe mango and pineapple with hints of quince and orange. On the palate, the wine is lusciously sweet yet perfectly offset by mouth-watering citrus orange acidity on a long and lingering finish. Serve well chilled with tarte tatin, crème brülée and thoroughly recommended with local blue cheeses.
