2013 Syrah

Analysis:
Alcohol: 14.5% | PH: 3.76 | Titratable acidity: 6.44 g/L

Tasting Notes:

Delicate and elegant, the 2013 Syrah opens on a deep and harmonious nose of violet, warm and treacly black fruits meshed together with tobacco, cocoa, wood spice and black pepper. On the palate the wine progresses smoothly with flavours of damson plum, blackberry, baked strawberry followed by tobacco, clove, vanilla, licorice and leathery undertones. The mid-palate is fleshy and flavourful, with ripe, velvety tannins. It is balanced by a juicy acidity and ends in a long fruity, smoky and spicy finish.

This wine is approachable and age worthy. Try it with pork tenderloin stuffed with garlic and local brambly fruit puree or with a bacon-wrapped and prune-stuffed quail.

2014 Sauvignon Blanc

Analysis:
Alcohol: 13.5% | PH: 3.42 | Titratable acidity: 6.14 g/L

Tasting Notes:
Subtle flavours of fresh cut grass, lemon and passionfruit intermingle on the nose with vanilla, leafy and candied fruit undertones. The palate is rich with a harmoniously woven mouthfeel combining green apple, white peach, passionfruit with leafy, nectarine and fresh marjoram notes. Balance is built on a medium acidity and a mellowed texture that add weight to the wine which ends on a seductive citrusy, woodsy and mineral finish. Very food friendly, it will highlight the many flavours of a coconut poached halibut with Thai green vegetables, or a crunchy vegetable and peach sauté sprinkled with chili, lime and fresh herbs.

2013 Pinot Noir

Analysis:
Alcohol: 14.5% | PH: 3.58 | Titratable acidity: 6.81 g/L

Tasting Notes:
2013 Burrowing Owl Estate Winery Pinot noir releases a concentrated nose of raspberry coulis on a background canvas of violet, soft spice, meaty and vanillin undertones. The palate is coated with intense flavours of wild strawberries and baked dark berries perfectly framed by a juicy acidity and prolonged by notes of cedar, cloves, vanilla and hints of graphite. Enjoy now and serve at 16C (61F) to preserve this nice combination of fruitiness, power and delicacy. Try with a charcuterie platter (salami, grilled sausages, duck terrine) or with a veggie Tabbouleh with touches of cinnamon, mint, raisin and chili pepper. Its sustained aromatics and delicate texture will flavor many simple recipes.

2015 Pinot Gris

Analysis:
Alcohol: 13.5% | PH: 3.37 | Titratable acidity: 5.29 g/L

Tasting Notes:
The 2015 Pinot Gris opens on an intense nose of the classic Pinot Gris aromas of pear, peach and honeydew melon along with some more exotic notes of apple blossom, grapefruit and pineapple. The palate is dry with crisp acidity and shows lush, ripe and intense peach, nectarine, baked pear and lots of lemony citrus zest on the long refreshing finish.

The richness and ripeness of fruit should pair well with a Thai style Dungeness crab and pomelo salad. Rhys Pender, Master of Wine.

2012 Petit Verdot

Analysis:
Alcohol: 14% | PH: 3.97 | Titratable acidity: 5.78 g/L

Tasting Notes:
Burrowing Owl Estate Winery is proud to announce the premier release of Petit Verdot as a single varietal, to the line up of premium wines.

The 2012 Petit Verdot shows dense black fruit aromas mixed with an array of seductive spices. Cassis and stewed blackberries mingle on the nose combined with Dutch black liquorice, dusty earth and notes of all-spice. On the palate it offers layers of intriguing flavours with blackberry, liquorice, cedar, black olive and all-spice all melding together on a long length. The tannins offer some grip and structure to an overall gentle and soft texture. It will partner well with meatier dishes: try Port braised beef short ribs with star anise or a hearty lamb stew for a tasty match.

2013 Merlot

Analysis:
Alcohol: 14.5% | PH: 3.56 | Titratable acidity: 6.25 g/L

Tasting Notes:
A mix of brambly red berry fruit on the nose with paprika, roasted red pepper, stewed plum, black cherry, dark chocolate and violet along with some sweet vanillin pastry crust. The palate is dry, full bodied and has nice vibrant mixed red and black brambly berry fruit, crisp acidity, the punch of blackberry, juiciness of plum, blueberry, smooth tannins and dark chocolate, dried thyme and some dusty earth. Try with venison sausages with a sweet cassis sauce. Rhys Pender, Master of Wine

2012 Meritage

Analysis:
Alcohol: 14.5% | PH: 3.76 | Titratable acidity: 6.71 g/L

Tasting Notes:
Vibrant and complex nose with everything from ripe raspberry, cassis, blackberry and prune plum through to dried sage brush, orange zest, clove, black olive, marzipan, dusty vanillin oak and malt. The palate is dry, rich and full bodied with crisp acidity and firm, medium-plus ripe tannins. The structure for aging is framed by plenty of dark chocolate, cocoa, cassis, black plum, black cherry, spiced berry compote, citrus peel and a touch of fig, raisin and leather. Drinking well now, it also shows the concentration to open up and evolve over a decade. Pair with rosemary and garlic studded leg of lamb or lamb tagine.
Rhys Pender, Master of Wine.

2013 Malbec

Analysis:
Alcohol: 14.5% | PH: 3.71 | Titratable acidity: 6.28 g/L

Tasting Notes:
The nose is spicy, peppery and rustic with intense aromas of blackberry, dried fig, cigar box, leather, vanilla and meat, with subtle violet notes in the background. The palate is dry and full bodied with crisp acidity and firm, ripe tannins. There is lots of personality in the paprika, black plum, sundried tomato, blueberry and leather with a savoury dried sage finish. Lots of character now and should soften over the next 2-3 years. Try with a nicely seared piece of beef with a ratatouille and some hearty polenta.

2014 Chardonnay

Analysis:
Alcohol: 13.5% | PH: 3.48 | Titratable acidity: 6.45 g/L

Tasting Notes:
The 2014 Chardonnay shows the ripe fruitiness of the 2014 vintage with winemaking restraint. It has ripe peach, nectarine and tropical pineapple and papaya notes on the nose with some well integrated subtle toasty oak and fresh mandarin and lemon citrus notes to add complexity. The palate is full-bodied and rich textured but with crisp balancing acidity. Lemon, lime, peach, toasted nut, pineapple, caramel, vanilla, mango and green melon make for a complex palate, heightened with well integrated oak. The finish is crisp and refreshing. Try pairing this with Dungeness crab or scallops sautéed in brown butter.

2013 Cabernet Sauvignon

Analysis:
Alcohol: 14.5% | PH: 3.75 | Titratable acidity: 6.09 g/L

Tasting Notes:
The warm 2013 vintage has produced a Cabernet Sauvignon with all the structure and ripeness you hope for while remaining quintessentially Okanagan: the nose shows a complex mix of cassis, blackberry, black olive, dusty oak, cedar, tobacco and lots of dried wild sage adding a fresh element. The palate is firmly structured and intensely flavoured with flavours mirroring the nose. There is also dried plum, dried black cherry, distinct mint, charred meat and a little liquorice spice with a long, satisfying finish. Young now, it has all the elements to cellar for many years. Pair this with venison loin or a grilled rib eye.

2013 Cabernet Franc

Analysis:
Alcohol: 14.5% | PH: 3.75 | Titratable acidity: 5.9 g/L

Tasting Notes:
An intense nose showing both the pretty, complex side of Cabernet Franc and the ripeness of the Okanagan’s 2013 vintage. There are aromas of lavender, purple flowers, red currant, oak and blueberry with a nice savoury note of tobacco, and dried sage. The palate is silky textured, medium in body with lovely refreshing acidity. Cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, blackberry and some peppery spice end with a long finish. This wine has the concentration and structure to age well. Try with braised lamb shanks.

2014 bottling Coruja

Analysis:
Alcohol: 18.5%

Tasting Notes:

Burrowing Owl Estate Winery is proud to offer it’s first fortified port-style wine. The name, Portuguese for “owl,” pays homage to the winery’s namesake and to the country of origin for this style of wine.

A soul warming aroma of dried plums, blackberry, blueberry and pastry crust all wrapped around complex pepper, clove, vanilla, marzipan, chocolate and oak notes. The palate is rich and silky with intense flavours of blackberry jam, mixed brambly berry pie, stewed damson plums, violets, black pepper, clove and just a touch of leather. The sweetness is balanced nicely by the fullbodied viscous texture, balancing tannins and refreshing acidity that linger on a long finish. Try with chilli infused dark chocolate desserts or intensely flavoured hard cheeses.

2013 Athene

Analysis:
Alcohol: 14.5% | PH: 3.93 | Titratable acidity: 5.87 g/L

Tasting Notes:

Intense and intriguing aromas on the nose with pastry crust, blackberry, raspberry, blueberry, dried thyme and sage, ripe Italian plum and with some complex paprika, cinnamon and black pepper spice. The palate is ripe and rich in black fruits, black plum, cassis and black cherry with some espresso and oak and given a nice savoury side with dried sage, liquorice, a hint of black olive and leather. The tannins are firm but ripe. It is full bodied and has all the elements to age for a long and graceful life in the bottle. Try pairing with venison with a rich berry infused demi-glace.

CHÂTEAU CARPE DIEM

CHÂTEAU CARPE DIEM

THE BRAND

In the very heart of Green Provence and at the gates of the Haut Var, halfway between the Gorges du Verdon and the Mediterranean Sea, our beautiful village of Cotignac stands with panache at the foot of a majestic rock. Among fragrant hills and lush green planes, nature expresses itself with generosity.
Vineyards, centuries old olive trees and cypress hedges sign a landscape of character carved by men. Provence, in all its generosity but sometimes its violence…

This is where we as a family have chosen to give meaning to our life. Our project mirrors the centuries-old oak tree that stands proudly at the entrance of the estate. A long-term endeavour, an undertaking of passion, toil and learning. Vines and wines, a long road. Today, the vineyard covers 14 hectares in AOP Côtes de Provence. It is grown according to the principles of organic farming. Soils are predominantly clay-limestone, dolomite, ranging in colour from pale yellow to deep wine lees red. They are developed on marine geological formations dating from the early Jurassic (over 200 million years). In this small natural paradise, we produce white, rosé and red stemming from the traditional Provencal grape varieties, which are the true expression of our terroir. Wines that are the focus of much attention. Wines to gladden the human heart. Carpe Diem …

CLOS DU SOLEIL

CLOS DU SOLEIL

THE BRAND

The name Clos du Soleil, a French term meaning an enclosed Vineyard of the Sun, refers to the rocks, soil, and sun, which together define this very special piece of land where we grow our grapes. The enclosure is the mountain that forms a tall natural stone wall at the back of our vineyard, almost surrounding the cobbled terroir which lends its unique flavours to our wines. Most importantly, our name highlights the long days of sun which pour in on the Similkameen Bench, one of BC’s most unique and promising microclimates.

SIGNATURE 2012

Cabernet Sauvignon (48%), Merlot (42%), Cabernet Franc (9%), Petit Verdot (1%)

The nose opens with aromas of cassis, blueberry and dark cherry, on a background of spice and mixed herbs. On the palate the wine is full, long and elegant.  Bright fruit flavours of cherry and black and red currant flow seamlessly into a long finish with notes of tobacco and black pepper.  Enjoyable in its youth, the fine tannins and beautiful balance of this wine ensure its ability to age for a decade.

CAPELLA 2013

Capella is Clos du Soleil's flagship white Bordeaux-style wine. A classic blend of 91% Sauvignon Blanc and 9% Semillon, this is a wine of grace and elegance.  A pale gold in the glass, this wine opens with aromas of lemon jelly, quince, and sun-ripened grapefruit.  On the palate the wine is full, rich, and brimming with ripe fruit: orchard peach and apricot, lemon, pink grapefruit, and a gentle hint of vanilla. Complex, long and engaging, this is a wine which would pair equally well with herb-crusted roast chicken, tuna tartare with a citrus dressing, or just simplicity itself: an omelette with fresh herbs.

CÉLESTIALE 2012

Merlot 37%, Cabernet Sauvignon 26%, Cabernet Franc 18%, Malbec 13%, Petit Verdot 5%

A hand-crafted, barrel-aged blend of all five Bordeaux varietals, this approachable, juicy wine is brimming with ripe fruit flavours. Smooth and elegant with very fine tannins, this is a wine which would could grace any fine dining table, complementing dishes like roast lamb, barbecued beef or even roast pork, but would be equally at home on a picnic table with a range of farm cheeses and fresh bread.

SATURN 2013

Sauvignon Blanc 100%

Saturn is Clos du Soleil’s Late Harvest wine made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes specially selected and harvested in late November. A rich gold in the glass, the nose of this wine is pure enjoyment: a heady blend of mandarin orange, candied citrus peel, marmalade and crème brulée. In the mouth this wine is unctuous and rich with the flavours of vanilla, stewed peaches, marmalade, lime peel and a bright acidity that lends this complex wine a light and clean impression. Hedonistic now, imagine how this wine will develop even more complexity and richness over the years!

ROSE 2014

Cabernet Sauvignon 100%

A classic wine from Clos du Soleil, this full-bodied and complex rosé, produced from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, offers layers of ripe fruit flavours. The delightful strawberry hues of this wine announce the rich aromatic profileof ripe, juicy strawberries, raspberries and rhubarb pie. The palate explodes with the same flavours: wild strawberry, raspberry jam, and red rhubarb, reinforced by crisp acidity and an underlying minerality.  The finish is long and full, yet refreshing.  An extraordinarily flexible food wine, it pairs equally well with charcuterie, or roast pork, with fruit salad or with a bacon quiche.  Or perhaps the best way of all to enjoy it: a glass all by itself!

COVELA

COVELA

QUINTA DE COVELA

Dating from the 1500s, the ruins of the old, stone Casa de Covela, today composed of the facade of the original Renaissance manor house and the more recent chapel of St. Quiteria, bear witness to the centuries-old agricultural and cultural importance of the estate.

In more recent times, the Covela estate belonged to Manoel de Oliveira, one of the most important European film directors of the second half of the 20th Century and an incredible spirit who worked until his death, with 106 years of age. The director, himself a Renaissance Man, enlarged and transformed Covela, that originally came to him as his wife's dowry, on several fronts: he built or rebuilt aqueducts for irrigation; massive stone walls; a series of houses and warehouses and ample stone sun-terraces for drying what was once the farm's main crop - corn.

MASSIMO RATTALINO

MASSIMO RATTALINO

EVERY DETAIL COUNTS

The winemaking process is governed by precise rules which must be followed every step of the way. The vines are tended – pruned and thinned – and only the choicest grapes are utilized to be cru. Extreme care is taken with fermentation and aging. Large barrels are preferred to barrique to produce the traditional wines of the Langhe.

After initial production of Barbaresco, followed the Nebbiolo of the Langhe and then Barolo. Though originating from the same varietal, the terroir and different techniques make for unique and extraordinary wines.

QUAIL'S GATE

QUAIL'S GATE

HISTORY & TRADITION

Our family began farming in the Okanagan Valley in 1908, and helped the valley transition from growing tree fruits to grapes and wine. In 1956 we purchased the estate at Quails’ Gate, and this year we are celebrating 25 years of winemaking. We believe we have reached this significant milestone because our family has always been passionate about the potential of the land and uncompromising about the quality of our wines.

As we celebrate our quarter-century anniversary, our family is extremely grateful to our many supporters, including members of the media as well as liquor boards, fine restaurants, and retail stores. The Quails’ Gate winery team works tirelessly to make great wines and to provide an exceptional Canadian winery experience.

PORTFOLIO

Quail's Gate Chardonnay

Style
Our Chardonnay beautifully balances the acidity of stainless steel fermentation with the elegance of French oak. Bright and complex with rich biscuity, buttery notes our Chardonnay will reward careful cellaring.

Tasting
The 2014 Chardonnay leaps out of the glass with expressive aromas of white flowers, baked pear and orange blossom. While not as tropical as the 2013 vintage, this wine brings with it a bright mid palate, vibrant acidity and a refreshing, lingering finish. A delightful layer of stonefruit and minerality make this Chardonnay an ideal match for a range of different dishes. Caesar salad, pan seared scallops or rotisserie chicken just to name a few.

Quail's Gate Pinot Noir

Style
Pinot Noir is our flagship product. The volcanic slopes at this Quails’ Gate vineyard site are ideally suited to this varietal. Made to be elegant with grace and finesse, this wine is made for wine lovers who desire a sophisticated style of Pinot Noir. As one of Canada’s leading producers of Pinot Noir, we ensure that our wines exhibit rich, complex fruit flavours, reminiscent of classic Burgundy wines, while showcasing the added elegance of New World wine making techniques.

Tasting
The 2014 Pinot Noir is an expressive combination of bright red berry fruit, sweet spices and subtle hints of forest floor and earth. This is a medium bodied, fruit forward wine, with fine polished tannins and a long lingering finish. We suggest pairing with roasted chicken, baked salmon or wild mushroom risotto.

Quail's Gate Riesling Icewine

Style
At Quails’ Gate we believe the key to excellence in Icewine is ensuring we pick at optimal temperatures. Grapes naturally frozen on the vine produce a concentration of flavours not common in all ice wines.

Tasting
Our 2014 Icewine has intense aromas of ripe mango and pineapple with hints of quince and orange. On the palate, the wine is lusciously sweet yet perfectly offset by mouth-watering citrus orange acidity on a long and lingering finish. Serve well chilled with tarte tatin, crème brülée and thoroughly recommended with local blue cheeses.

QUINTA DA BOAVISTA

QUINTA DA BOAVISTA

SHAKING UP THE WINE WORLD

Quinta da Boavista is one of the most emblematic vineyards of the Douro, an estate indelibly associated with the name of Baron Joseph James Forrester, a pre-eminent figure in the history of winemaking in this, Portugal’s premium winemaking region.

Located on the Douro’s right bank, just West of the sleepy town of Pinhão and endowed with a unique, spectacular view over the river, this icon of the Demarcated Douro Region is best-known for its quality vines, some a century old, planted in schist terraces built by the arduous labour of men and beast in the 19th Century and before. On this property, one feels as if time has stood still, that memories are rigorously preserved, making Quinta da Boavista an ex-libris of the breathtaking mix of natural beauty and human ingenuity that is the Douro. The sum of all these elements is an ideal terroir for producing wines of exceptional quality.

Boa-Vista Reserva .png

BOA-VISTA RESERVA

As is common to all Boavista wines, the Reserva was aged in French oak barrels from different cooperages and with different levels of toast for two years, followed by another year's aging in bottle. The result is a very complex wine that reveals itself gradually on a number of different levels.

Colour
Deep ruby.

Nose
Complex, deep, intense and seductive hints of both red and black fruit, plus tobacco, spices and dark chocolate.

Palate
Fine, polished tannins that make for a long finish. Elegantly balanced acidity and fruit.

Vinification
Vinification in traditional granite "lagares" with foot treading, stainless steel vats or - for the single-vineyard wines - small containers or upturned 500-L French oak barrels. Each type of vinification confers a distinct style on each wine. All Boavista wines are aged in French oak barrels from different cooperages and with different levels of toast.

Boa-Vista Vihna do Oratorio.png

VINHA DO ORATORIO

A single-vineyard wine from Boavista’s ex-libris the Vinha do Oratório, whose towering, serpentine terraces form an altar like shape that give the vineyard its name.

Colour
Deep, intense ruby.

Nose
Elegant, depth with predominantly red and briar fruit backed up by complexity resulting from long ageing in barrel.

Palate
Silky on first contact, very fine tanins which provide a generous structure to ths wine, though with elegance and balance. Intense mouthfeel and pronouncedly long finish.

Vinification
The Oratório grapes are fermented and foot-trodden in open granite vats and aged in French oak barrels for over 18 months. The wine is stored for at least one year before being released to the market. No stabilization or filtration means that deposits can form with age, therefore we recommend decanting before service.

Boa-Vista Vihna do Ujo.png

VINHA DO UJO

The second single vineyard wine of Quinta da Boavista comes from a north-facing, dramatically steep vineyard with extremely narrow terraces. Ujo is the local Douro name for Eagle Owl.

Colour
Cherry red.

Nose
Still relatively closed needs time: mineral, red fruit, extremely fine and elegant.

Palate
Freshness, elegance and still some hint of tannins. Vibrant texture. Very long finish.

Vinification
Grapes are fermented in large, 500-litre French oak barrels and, after a period of maceration, transferred to 225-litre barrels, also made of French oak, for 16 months of ageing. The wine is stored for at least one year before being released to the market. No stabilization or filtration means that deposits can form with age, therefore we recommend decanting before service.

VELENOSI

VELENOSI

THE BRAND

Our passion originates in the wait for harvesting, to produce wine and discover the fragrances it will develop. The search for a perfect balance between taste and colour led to the establishment of Cantina Velenosi in 1984. The entrepreneurs Ercole and Angela Velenosi have combined artisan tradition and cutting-edge technology, creatively interpreting the wine-making process and thus starting a company which grows continually, with Paolo Garbini joining in 2005, and which today spreads worldwide the scents and colours of the Piceno territory through its unique wines.
